Active since: 2016

One World One Family Mission has been present in Fiji since 2016, working through Sai Prema Foundation Fiji to serve the poor, underprivileged and needy across the islands. What began as a community health and welfare effort has grown into one of the Mission’s most significant achievements: the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, the first paediatric cardiac specialty hospital in the Pacific and Oceania, and the largest charitable project ever undertaken by an NGO in Fiji’s history. All care is provided entirely free of charge. Fiji also serves as a regional hub for the Mission across the South Pacific Islands, working in close partnership with the Government of Fiji and the United Nations Development Programme.

How we serve

Here are a few ways in which we serve

Health

Fiji's healthcare work is anchored by the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital and a network of medical centres and outreach programmes, all provided free of charge.

  • Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital: Opened in 2022, this is the first paediatric cardiac specialty hospital in the Pacific and Oceania. Through the Gift of Life programme, children from Fiji and neighbouring Pacific Island Nations receive free, life-saving heart surgery. The hospital was built at significant cost and represents a major investment in free paediatric cardiac care for the region.
  • Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Medical Centre, Suva: Opened in 2018 in collaboration with the Fiji Ministry of Health, the centre offers free general and specialist care with a particular focus on women's health, child health and diabetes. Services include general medical consultations, dietetics, nursing and triage, as well as free medications.
  • Heart Beat Programme: A nationwide child heart screening initiative that has screened thousands of children across rural Fiji and Pacific Island Nations for congenital heart disease, entirely free of charge. The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Heart Screening Centre in Suva houses advanced 4D echocardiogram technology and provides all screenings free of charge.
  • Health on Wheels: The Foundation's inaugural project, Health on Wheels brings free, high-quality healthcare directly to rural communities through regular outreach medical camps. Teams of medical professionals, Foundation members and volunteers travel to remote parts of Fiji, providing services such as general consultations, specialist care, dental treatment, diabetes screening, eye care, women's health services, health education and free medications.
  • Be A Hero: A successful blood collection project across the towns and cities of Fiji, run in conjunction with the Fiji National Blood Service, Fiji Ministry of Health and the Fiji Red Cross. The initiative aims to ensure that crucial surgeries are not postponed due to lack of blood available at blood banks around the country. The Foundation has been among the highest blood collectors in Fiji for multiple years.
  • Control D: Provides diabetes treatment with support from a visiting endocrinologist from the UK.
  • You Are Not Alone: A mental health awareness programme offering free consultations with a specialist psychiatrist.

Nutrition

Through the Sai Annapoorna initiative, Sai Prema Foundation Fiji has implemented a national food programme that feeds underprivileged and needy people across the islands, including institutions such as orphanages, schools for disabled children, blind schools and retirement homes. Grocery and food packs are distributed to underprivileged families, with a specific focus on families with disabled individuals, single mothers, families with many children and families without a source of income.

Education

Education efforts focus on building local capacity in paediatric cardiology and related fields:

  • Medical Scholarship Programme: In association with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals India, scholarships are provided to train Fiji-based doctors in India across all aspects of paediatric cardiology, including paediatric cardiothoracic surgery, perfusion and paediatric nursing. The scholarship is offered to Fiji Ministry of Health personnel at no cost to the Government, with all training, accommodation, meals and air fares covered for the entire duration.
  • The aim is to build capacity in Fiji by training a complete specialist team capable of running the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital in Fiji independently in the future.

Through the Value Educate the World programme, values education books for students and handbooks for teachers are translated. Training and leadership workshops for teachers are conducted regularly, along with weekly Human Development workshops and Values Education classes.

Who we are

Sai Prema Foundation Fiji is the Mission's member organisation in Fiji and across the South Pacific.

    Sai Prema Foundation, Fiji

Sai Prema Foundation Fiji is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and a registered charitable organisation under the Charitable Trust Act of Fiji. It was founded to serve the poor, underprivileged and needy people of Fiji through Medicare, Educare and Sociocare initiatives. Additional Information

Fiji is home to Sai Prema Ashram, a Centre for Human Development located in Pacific Harbour, Southern Fiji, about an hour’s drive from Suva. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and opposite the island of Beqa, the centre is surrounded by lush greenery and features architectural elements including a pillar representing unity among all faiths.

Inaugurated in April 2019, the centre has become a base for Sai Prema Foundation Fiji’s Medicare, Sociocare and Educare initiatives. It is envisioned as a hub offering human values workshops, self-development classes in meditation and yoga, and international conferences focused on human excellence and global peace.
