Educates an orphaned child for a month

Active since: 2017
One World One Family Mission is active in Mexico through the Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Excelencia Humana A.C., supporting vulnerable families and indigenous communities through Human Values Education, nutrition, healthcare and practical community service.
Here are a few ways in which we serve

Nutrition support focuses particularly on children and families in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua, including the Rarámuri community. Sampa is a fortified nutritional supplement developed for children experiencing malnutrition and provided in cookie form. The recipe was developed specifically for children in the Sierra Tarahumara and refined over two years. The programme currently provides more than 193,000 Sampa portions annually through seven schools and children's shelters in the region. The programme has reported improvements in children's health and attention in the classroom, with educational and health outcomes also noted. A clinical study has also been announced in collaboration with CONAFE and One World One Family Mission to explore the distribution of Sampa Sai in more remote communities of the Sierra Tarahumara.
The Foundation also provides regular food packages to Tarahumara and low-income Mexican families, containing staple foods such as beans, lentils and rice. In Mexico City, food bags are distributed to relatives of patients at a state hospital, providing food and water to families who may spend long hours at the hospital with limited resources.

Human Values Education has been part of the Foundation's work since its early years. The programme has been delivered in primary and secondary schools in Chihuahua through its own methodology, based on five human values: Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence. Facilitators help students recognise these values through introspection activities, stories and exercises for applying them in daily life.
Educating with the Heart sessions prepare individuals who aspire to become trainers in Education in Human Values. Through the Value Educating the World programme, values education books for students and handbooks for teachers are translated into Spanish.
The Foundation also develops educational resources in Spanish, including the Colores de la Vida collection. These books contain year-by-year activities designed to support the ethical and personal development of children from ages 3 to 12.
Online Human Development workshops are held monthly, bringing together participants from Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Argentina and Chile. Sessions explore topics such as Educating with the Heart and Human Development.
In 2026, the Foundation's work also expanded into an academic partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua, Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence and Sri Sathya Institute of Medical Sciences & Research. The Memorandum of Understanding establishes cooperation in Human Values Education, medical training, student and faculty exchanges, joint research and social-impact projects. It includes plans for a Human Values Department at UACH, opportunities for UACH medical students to undertake practical training at the Mission's hospitals in Muddenahalli, and international academic and online learning programmes.

Healthcare outreach includes dedicated dental care for Tarahumara communities, helping improve access to oral healthcare for children and families with limited access to treatment.
The Foundation's wider community service has also included medical consultations and practical assistance for people living in vulnerable circumstances.
The 2026 academic partnership with UACH also creates opportunities for medical education and clinical training through the Mission's medical institutions in India.

The Foundation's community service has included practical support for vulnerable families and communities, including food supplies, medical consultations, home improvements and the construction of greenhouses.
Support also reaches children through festive and community activities. At a Christian orphanage, children have received meals, new shoes and celebrations, while children in the Tarahumara community have received presents, blankets and food packages.
The Mission's work in Mexico is supported through the Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Excelencia Humana.

The Foundation's roots go back more than 30 years, when a group of friends began serving vulnerable communities in Chihuahua and the Sierra Tarahumara. The Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Excelencia Humana A.C. was formally established in 2001, with a focus on Human Values Education and community service, and later expanded its work in child nutrition through Sampa. Today, its work includes Human Values Education, nutrition, healthcare and support for vulnerable communities.
