Service as the Doorway to Self-Discovery

Someone once asked me, ‘How has selfless service shaped your spiritual journey?’ My answer was simple, service was not just an influence; it became the doorway through which I began to discover my true self. It was the path that gently moved me from living for ‘I’ towards living with awareness of something greater in everyone.

Being Restored Through Giving

Through my journey of service, including experiences within the One World One Family Mission, I realised that when we serve, we are not losing anything, we are being restored. Service removes the illusion of separation and softens the walls of ‘mine’ and ‘not mine.’ In moments when I reached out to ease someone’s burden, I discovered that I was the one being healed.

Seeing the Divine in Everyone

Gradually, I began to see every being as a reflection of the Divine. Even the smallest acts, a smile, a word of encouragement, a shared meal, or a comforting touch, became sacred offerings. Inspired by the teachings of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, I learnt that love is not a luxury; it is our responsibility towards one another. Service is not something we do occasionally, it is a way of living with compassion and awareness.

In the face of need, I came to understand that grace is meant to be shared. Those I served became mirrors through which I recognised my true nature, not to accumulate, but to give; not to separate, but to unite. Through service, I felt part of a world that transcends religion, race, and nationality, a world connected by unity and love.

Service as Prayer in Action

Service slowly transformed my understanding of life. It became prayer in action and a daily expression of gratitude. I remain deeply thankful to Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba for teaching that service is an honour, and to Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, whose life and guidance continue to inspire countless seekers to live with purpose and compassion.

When We Serve With Love

I also offer my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers and guides who helped me walk this path with sincerity and courage. Through service, I learnt a simple truth when we serve with love, we come closer to the Divine within ourselves and others. And in that realisation, only light and unity remain.
